"Arriving way after midnight in Oradea instead of early in the evening we found a smiling and welcoming Paul waiting for us at the guesthouse. The warm welcoming and the cold peaches and watermelon Paul put in the fridge for us made us quickly forget about cheap flight delays. After a short but refreshing sleep we went to vad Suncuius by train where we were welcomed in the guesthouse for the next two days. We could then choose between a short hike and visiting a traditional pottery workshop. We chose for the latter as we would have many hikes in the coming days.
The pottery workshop was very special because among other steps in making jars we could watch how mother at the age of at least 70 drew intricate patterns on the jars with an incredible steady hand, meanwhile explaining about pigments, clay preparation and the challenges of the potters’ everyday life in these modern times. We bought some small items that could survive the days to come and would not increase the weight of our backpacks too much.

Our environmental and ethical policy
Fair trade travel - we pay people with the fair wage for the services that they provide to us and we make sure that nothing we do in the mountains or in our office exploits people.
We encourage learning about local cultures- our trips have an educational component, both for the traveler and for the local people. We encourage you to learn about local culture and we design our trips according with this principle. We believe that our trips are designed in order to facilitate you not merely to see but to understand.
Apuseni Experience is a Responsible Travel initiative developed with pride and passion in Apuseni Mountains/Western Carpathians, Romania by a group of young enthusiasts, who made a way of life from their common passion for these unique mountains.
Apuseni Experience is a follow-up of an EU Life project funded project which ended in 2001. The aim of the project was to valorize the natural heritage of Apuseni Mountains and, in this respect; low impact touristic infrastructure was developed through this project. Until 2006 the programme was run by the Centre for Protected Areas and Sustainable Development (http://www.capdd-bihor.org/) – a non-profit organization started locally, among the few in Bihor County area, which works in Apuseni Mountains for the sustainable development of local communities in this area.
